Pregnancy Week 15: Baby Development and What to Expect

Pregnancy week 15 continues the second trimester, a stage when many women begin to feel more comfortable and energetic compared to the first trimester.

For many expectant mothers, this part of pregnancy brings a welcome change as symptoms such as nausea and extreme fatigue begin to fade. As your body continues adjusting to pregnancy, you may notice improved energy levels and a growing baby bump.

Your baby is growing quickly, and important developments continue to take place as the body becomes more developed and coordinated. Even though your baby is still small, each week brings significant changes that support healthy development.

Understanding what is happening during week 15 can help you feel more confident as your pregnancy progresses.

Baby Development at Week 15

At fifteen weeks pregnant, your baby is about the size of an apple.

Your baby’s skeleton continues to develop as bones become stronger. Earlier in pregnancy, much of the skeleton was made of cartilage, but during this stage it gradually hardens into bone. This process helps support your baby’s growing body.

Muscles are also becoming more developed, allowing your baby to move arms and legs more freely. These movements are becoming more coordinated as the nervous system continues to mature.

Your baby may now be able to make facial expressions such as squinting or frowning as facial muscles grow stronger. Although these movements may not yet be visible to you, they are a sign that the muscles and nerves are developing properly.

Fine hair called lanugo may begin forming on your baby’s skin. This soft, delicate hair helps protect the baby’s skin and assists in regulating body temperature during development inside the womb.

Your baby’s skin is still very thin and delicate at this stage, but it will gradually become thicker as pregnancy continues.

Although you may not feel movement yet, your baby is becoming more active each day. Some mothers may begin feeling very subtle movements in the coming weeks.

Common Symptoms During Week 15

Many women continue to feel better during the second trimester as hormone levels become more stable.

Improved energy
Fatigue from early pregnancy often decreases, allowing you to feel more active during the day.

Reduced nausea
Morning sickness typically continues to improve or disappear for many women during this stage.

Growing baby bump
Your abdomen may begin expanding as the uterus grows and moves upward in the abdomen.

Nasal congestion
Hormonal changes can sometimes cause mild nasal stuffiness due to increased blood flow to the nasal passages.

Increased appetite
Your body may require additional nutrients as pregnancy progresses, which may lead to feeling hungrier than usual.

While these changes are normal, every pregnancy is different and symptoms can vary from person to person.

Changes in Your Body

During week 15, your uterus continues growing to accommodate your developing baby. As it expands, your abdomen may become more noticeable.

Your body is also increasing blood circulation to support your baby’s development. This increased blood flow helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your baby through the placenta.

You may also notice changes in your skin or hair due to pregnancy hormones. Some women experience a healthy glow in their skin, while others may notice mild skin sensitivity or dryness.

These changes are a natural part of pregnancy as your body continues adapting to support your baby’s growth.
